Palau de la Música Catalana
Exuberant concert auditorium featuring an inverted stained-glass sun skylight
Built between 1905 and 1908 by Lluís Domènech i Montaner as the headquarters of the Orfeó Català choral society. Erected in just three years through public donations and designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1997.
The world's only concert auditorium illuminated entirely by natural daylight during daytime hours. Features an inverted 3D stained-glass central skylight radiating amber and azure tones, surrounded by 18 high-relief mosaic muses on stage.
A popular rumor claimed the auditorium's daring steel-and-glass structure would collapse under the acoustic vibrations of a full orchestra, but its acoustics proved to be among the finest in Europe.
